Most of our clients experience difficulties in understanding what “SEO” means. For that reason, we have decided to demystify the term for you. Moreover, the importance of SEO is still misunderstood by a significant number of startups and entrepreneurs.

 

WHAT IS SEO ?

SEO aims to improve and outplay visibility and “ranking” on non-paying searching pages. Search engines like Google or Microsoft Edge have their own way to index your website among similar websites (ranking factors : quality of your pages content; numbers of backlinks; chosen keywords on each pages, and more).

Example: An internet user is looking for a specific object. Let’s say: a cheap electric bike in Zürich. He/she will probably type “cheap electric bike Zürich” into the Google searching bar. As a result of the search, Google will list out the most relevant website or blog pages that match the request that this internet user has typed in.

Hence, any website owners’ goal is to naturally (also called “organically”) drive traffic (“internet users”) to their website and rank #1 on searching pages. When ranking number one, it simply means that, when people search for a precise term, your website page wil be the first result to appear. Ideally, a business owner would like to appear in the top three results pages.

 

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SEO & SEA ?

At this stage, I would like to highlight the difference between organic or paid indexing. You can rank organically which means “ranking without investing money to be shown on the first searching pages”. Or you can pay and advertise to appear on the first searching pages (this is called SEA – Search Engine Advertising).

 

WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT ?

Simply because an internet user rarely clicks beyond the third searching page result (also called SERP). Would you also have a look at page number 10 of all listed results ?

The answer seems quite obvious. SEO is a long-term and ongoing investment that a business owner should definitely consider at the launch of his/her website.

 

WHY ARE SEARCH ENGINES SO INTERESTED IN SEO ?

Google’s scope is to “organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful”. Therefore, delivering relevant results is an extensive part of this purpose.

 

WHY ASKING A WEB AGENCY TO IMPLEMENT SEO ?

Search engine optimization is a bunch of tools that will help your business to rank higher. However, it is not just about finding and using the right keywords indefinitely on each page of your website. Hence, SEO includes several other actions that an online business expert has to take to improve the whole website visibility on search engines.
